Summer 2008 Classes & Camps

This summer the Museum is offering animation, cartooning, and manga as well as hands-on art instructon for children. Participants will work with professional cartoonists to unleash their inner artist. Class options include week-long classes, half-day classes, and a 6-week series. All classes require pre-registration and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Snacks and supplies are provided.

Students launch their “Cartoon Safari” week with a drumming session
with South African musician Baba Shibambo. They spent the rest
of the week creating cartoon creatures and stories with professional
cartoonist Brian Narelle as part of our 2008 summer class session.

 

Pre-School Classes | Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 9am–12noon
These early art experiences are designed to excite your pre-schoolers’ senses and imaginations through hands-on art projects and movement games. Drop off your child or stay with us and enjoy the fun!
COST: $75 for members; $95 for non-members

JUNE 23, 25 & 27 | Snoopy and Friends
Learn about animals in art. Make a Snoopy hand puppet, create Woodstock out of marshmallows, and meet some live animals too!
JULY 7, 9 &11 | Art Adventures
Paint and create with different objects and media every day. Use sticks and string—and paint with pudding and whipped cream. Get messy and have fun exploring the basics of art!
JULY 14, 16 & 18 | Make it Messy!
Pour, mix, stir, cut, glue, and create! Make home made play dough, bubble solution, marbleized paper, and your own edible treats to eat.
AUGUST 11, 13 &15 | Music and Movement
Make your own instruments, paint to music, and enjoy different movement and music games every day.

Classes for Grades 1–6
Spend a half-day or full week at the Schulz Museum enjoying hands-on activities and time in the Museum. All classes include projects to take home, daily snacks, breaks, and professional art instruction. All materials and snacks are provided.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4 ● 9am–12:30pm | The Science of Peanuts
Through experiments and activities, explore the science of the Peanuts comic strip. Learn how Snoopy balances atop his dog house by making stabiles and mobiles. Have fun with gravity by participating in an egg drop.
COST: $28 for members; $35 for non-members
THURSDAY, JUNE 5 ● 9am–12:30pm | Mosaic Madness!
Create a comic strip mosaic. Also, use digital cameras and computers to take your own photos and make a unique photo mosaic to take home.

FRIDAY, JUNE 6 ● 9am–12:30pm
Outdoor Adventures
Go on an orienteering adventure just like Snoopy and his Beagle Scouts! Make your own compass to use for an outdoor treasure hunt.

Explore the art of the Schulz Museum by experimenting with everything from paints to pastels to photography. Artists of all levels will learn new skills and have fun creating a variety of projects to take home.
COST: $152 for members; $190 for non-members
MONDAY–FRIDAY ● JUNE 16–20, 9am–12:30pm | Cartoon Safari
Take a summer adventure in cartooning. Discover places and creatures you never knew existed, right in your own imagination. By the end of the week students will create their own cartoon magazine to take home. Instructor Brian Narelle has animated for Pixar, Disney, and Sesame Street.

MONDAY–FRIDAY, JUNE 23– 27 9am–12:30pm | Camp Snoopy
Celebrate animals in art by creating your own creatures out of candy, clay, origami, and more. Meet some live animals too!

Advanced Classes for Grade 4 and Above

JULY 7–11 9am–12:30pm | Stop and Go!
Learn the basics of stop-motion animation and make your own animated film by the end of the week. Students will experiment with stop-motion and hand-drawn animation, flip books and zoetropes, as well as other methods. Taught by professional artist Brian Kolm.
COST: $152 for members; $190 for non-members

JULY 14–18 ● 9am–12:30pm | FUNdamentals of Art
If you love to draw, this class is for you! Learn art skills including sketching, shading, and color mixing. Each day focuses on introducing new techniques and exploring a variety of fun, basic media. Taught by graphic designer and illustrator Tony Caporusso.
COST: $152 for members; $190 for non-members

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9 ● 1–4pm (grades 4–6) | Drawing Manga
WEDNESDAY, JULY 16 ● 1–4pm (grades 6 and up)
Learn to draw the popular Japanese comics called Manga. Instructor Emily Martin draws and teaches manga and anime.
COST: $28 per session for members; $35 per session for non-members
AUGUST 4–8 ● 9am–12:30pm | Lego-Animation
Use computers and Legos to create your own short films. Build sets, scenes, and characters with Legos. Add lights, cameras, and action to make your own short film. Taught by Torrance Carroll, whose Lego-animation films can be viewed at torrancecarroll.googlepages.com.

The Schulz Museum is committed to making classes available to everyone. To request a Fee Assistance Application, please call us at (707) 579-4452, ext. 263

Cancellation/Refund Policy
If you need to cancel a class, please let us know as soon as possible. If you cancel a class with more than a 24–hour notice, the Museum will provide you with either a full credit for a future class or with a refund minus a $15 processing fee. We cannot provide any refunds or credits for classes cancelled with less than a 24–hour notice.
Please note that the Charles M. Schulz Museum’s classes are educational programs and NOT child care as defined by the State of California.
